The Universidad Internacional de Andalucía (UNIA) has presented at the 50th Huelva Book Fair a special edition of its Siempreviva collection, which brings together the ten titles published to date. They are classics of Spanish literature adapted so that people with reading comprehension difficulties can read them.
What easy-to-read is
The collection adapts fundamental works following easy-to-read guidelines, a method that makes texts easier to understand through the language used and the page design. According to UNIA, it is intended above all for those who find reading difficult, but it is also useful for children, young people, older people and any reader who wants to approach these works in a simpler way.
The titles in the edition include Platero y yo, by Juan Ramón Jiménez; the Novelas ejemplares, by Miguel de Cervantes; La casa de Bernarda Alba, by Federico García Lorca, and Leyendas, by Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. The series also includes female authors such as Carmen de Burgos, Colombine, with Los inadaptados, and Rosalía de Castro, with Ruinas.
Since 2014 and with new releases planned
The collection was created in 2014 and its catalogue will continue to grow. The university is already working on adding works by San Juan de la Cruz and Emilia Pardo Bazán.
During the event, the director of the Sede de La Rábida, María de la O Barroso, said that «knowledge must reach society in a useful, close and inclusive way» and thanked the UNIA Publications and Library Service for its work.
How to consult the collection
UNIA has given this commemorative edition to libraries, schools, associations and social organisations that took part in the Book Fair activity. Institutions and individuals interested in learning about the collection or requesting information can contact the university through its La Rábida campus.
