The Universidad Internacional de Andalucía (UNIA) is moving its Human Library to the Huelva Book Fair. It will be on Thursday, October 22, starting at 17:00, at the UNIA Space, according to the university. In this activity the books are not made of paper: they are people who tell their own story out loud. Anyone who comes along can listen to them and talk with them.

Two living books

The protagonists of the session will be the publicist Anabel Domínguez and the writer May R. Ayamonte. Domínguez, a native of Gelves (Sevilla) and based in Huelva, is a publicist and creative copywriter. She drives the No soy lo que ves movement, which seeks to dismantle prejudices about people with disabilities. That same title gives its name to the book she published in 2024 with the publisher Libros Cúpula, in which she reflects on self-acceptance and the harm caused by labels. May R. Ayamonte (Ayamonte, 1996) comes to the fair after winning this year's Edebé Prize for Young People's Literature with El maullido de la marisma, a novel set in Doñana. A graduate in English Studies, with master's degrees in Teaching and in Literature with a Gender Perspective, she became known as a booktuber and combines writing with talks to promote reading in schools and secondary schools and with creative writing classes. She lives in Granada.

What a Human Library is

The Human Library is a movement that began in Copenhagen (Denmark) in which the reader finds people instead of books. The UNIA explains that these activities create a framework for personal conversations that help to challenge prejudices, combat discrimination and contribute to greater human cohesion, overcoming social, religious, ethnic or any other kind of differences.

UNIA Space at the fair

The Universidad Internacional de Andalucía is taking part for another year in the Huelva Book Fair through the UNIA Space, a place where gatherings, presentations, signings, talks, storytelling, competitions and workshops are held.
