The flu vaccination campaign enters a new phase. From Wednesday, October 21, people aged 60 or over, members of the State security forces and bodies, firefighters and civil protection personnel, as well as professionals with direct exposure to animals and those who work in prison institutions, can be vaccinated. These are the last groups targeted by the campaign's recommendation.

How to request the vaccine

Anyone in one of these groups must request an appointment at their health centre to receive the dose. The vaccine is administered together with the covid vaccine in the same campaign.

How the campaign is going

The flu and covid vaccination campaign began on October 1 with children from six months to almost five years old (59 months) and in care homes for the elderly. On October 7, people aged 80 or over joined. A week later, on October 14, people over 70 and adults with chronic pathologies and risk situations were added.

Bronchiolitis in infants

The Minister of Health, Antonio Sanz, has highlighted the pace of immunisation of children under six months against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which causes bronchiolitis. According to his data, nirsevimab, the vaccine against bronchiolitis, has been administered to 27,583 of the 32,942 infants targeted by the campaign, which represents a coverage of 83.7%. Sanz has indicated that the campaign against RSV will include for the first time this year people over 60 who live in care homes or are being treated with immunosuppressive drugs, and people over 18 with very high risk.

Vaccination without an appointment

From November 11, walk-in vaccination days will begin, to be held every Wednesday for the duration of the campaign at health centres. In addition, two vaccination super Saturdays are being prepared at shopping centres. Sanz has insisted that the vaccine is a "fundamental tool" to "prevent complications, reduce hospitalisations and protect the most vulnerable people against respiratory viruses".
