The Instituto Andaluz del Patrimonio Histórico and the Consejo General de Hermandades y Cofradías de Sevilla have signed an agreement to organise a course on the conservation of brotherhood heritage, which will be held from November 16 to 19, 2026 at the Consejo's headquarters.
Seville's brotherhoods and confraternities will have specialised training to care for their heritage. The Instituto Andaluz del Patrimonio Histórico (IAPH), under the Consejería de Cultura, Patrimonio Histórico y Deporte, and the Consejo General de Hermandades y Cofradías de Sevilla have signed a collaboration agreement to launch the course «Conservación del patrimonio en las hermandades y cofradías».
Dates and venue
The course will be held at the Consejo's headquarters from November 16 to 19, 2026. It will be taught by specialised technical staff from the IAPH's Centro de Intervención, who will contribute their experience in conservation, restoration and preventive conservation.
Who it is aimed at
The training is aimed at people involved in managing brotherhood heritage, especially members of the governing boards. The aim is for them to learn to identify the tangible and intangible cultural values of their heritage and to apply appropriate strategies and techniques to conserve it.
According to the president of the Consejo General de Hermandades y Cofradías de Sevilla, José Roda Peña, the course «contribuirá a fomentar la conciencia patrimonial en el ámbito de nuestras corporaciones de Penitencia, Gloria y Sacramentales» and will make it easier to identify the cultural values of the brotherhoods' heritage.
A track record since 2021
This training line began in 2021 with the course «Gestión del patrimonio documental en hermandades y cofradías», held in Seville. It then went to Málaga in 2022, Jerez de la Frontera in 2023 and Huelva in 2024. In 2023 and 2024 the IAPH taught two specialisation courses in Córdoba on the conservation of confraternities' heritage, and in 2025 Granada hosted a technical seminar on documentary heritage management. In 2024 the «Guía para la gestión del patrimonio documental en hermandades y cofradías» was also published.
Registration
The Consejo de Hermandades y Cofradías will provide information on the registration process soon. So far, neither the price nor the number of places has been announced.
The signing of the agreement was attended by the consejera de Cultura, Patrimonio Histórico y Deporte, Patricia del Pozo, who noted that the agreement strengthens cooperation between both institutions in training and protection of cultural heritage.
