Traffic closures on the A-431 in Palma del Río due to the installation of a pedestrian footbridge
The A-431 road, between Lora del Río and Córdoba, will have diversions as it passes through Palma del Río for two days, Tuesday and Wednesday, from 7.00 to 18.00, due to the assembly of a cycle and pedestrian footbridge over kilometre 51+105.
The installation of the cycle-pedestrian footbridge that will link the urban centre of Palma del Río with La Estación, El Baldío, El Acebuchal and the Los Cabezos peri-urban park requires closing the A-431 road at kilometre 51+105. The closure takes place over two days, Tuesday and Wednesday, from 7.00 to 18.00.
How to get around during the closure
While the closure lasts, traffic will be diverted towards the centre of Palma del Río over the bridges that cross the Guadalquivir river. According to the Junta de Andalucía, the structure has been transported from the factory in two modules, welded at the roadside and lifted in a single piece with a 400-tonne crane.
A footbridge of almost 43 metres
The footbridge spans 42.91 metres over the A-431 and leaves a minimum vertical clearance over the roadway of 5.50 metres. On both banks, access ramps have been installed consisting of 14 sections 10 metres long with a longitudinal gradient of 8%.
The ramps have horizontal landings and 1.5-metre-high deployé mesh handrails-guardrails, and a minimum usable width of 2.90 metres, to comply with accessibility regulations and guarantee the passage of people with reduced mobility. The floor of the footbridge and the ramps has been designed in concrete over a composite deck slab, and the structure has a longitudinal gradient that channels water to the road ditches.
Visit to the works
The Regional Minister for Development, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, attended the operation and met with the works management, with the mayor of Palma del Río, Matilde Esteo, and with the delegate of the Junta Government in Córdoba, Adolfo Molina.
