The Reina Sofía University Hospital in Córdoba is holding its first Health Fair this Tuesday, October 27, an open day spread across different areas of the healthcare complex. The event is part of the hospital's 50th anniversary programme and brings together patients, volunteers, professionals and the public.
Workshops and checks in the Plaza Nueva
Between 10.00 and 12.00 hours, the hospital's Plaza Nueva hosts health promotion stands and workshops staffed by Nursing professionals. Cardiology carries out blood pressure, heart rate and blood glucose checks. Intensive Care gives a practical cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) workshop to learn the basic manoeuvres for a cardiorespiratory arrest.
Nutrition teaches how to identify sugars in food by reading labels and explains complementary infant feeding using the Baby-Led Weaning (BLW) method. Endocrinology carries out body composition assessments with a bioimpedance scale, and Rehabilitation dedicates a workshop to the pelvic floor.
Twenty patient associations
Around twenty patient associations and volunteer organisations show their lines of work and the resources they offer to patients and families. Among them are AOCOR, ACPA, the Asociación San Rafael de Alzheimer, ASPACACOR, Autismo Córdoba, the Asociación de Trasplantados Hepáticos, the Asociación de Laringectomizados, ACOLU, Nuevo Respirar, Sonrisa de Lunares, TDAH Córdoba, the AECC, ASAENEC, Cruz Roja, GEA Voluntariado, ACOARE, ALCER, FAISEM, ASMES and the Asociación Cordobesa de Parkinson.
Music, painting and a documentary
The main lobby of the Hospital General hosts 'Pianos por la vida' from 10.00 to 15.00 hours, a musical marathon within the Rafael Orozco International Piano Festival in which 43 young pianists from the Conservatorio Profesional Músico Ziryab and the Conservatorio Superior Rafael Orozco take part.
The same lobby displays the winning works of the 1st 50th Anniversary Quick Painting Competition: first prize goes to Laura García Ortega, second to Fernando Angulo Torralbo and the special mention to Rafael Jiménez Reyes. At 12.15 hours, the assembly hall screens the documentary 'Sangre, sudor y alegría', co-directed by Rodolfo Montero and Rosana Marcos, about five people with haemophilia and their families on the Camino de Santiago, with a film forum afterwards.
An annual event
The hospital's managing director, Francisco Triviño, has said that the fair will become an annual event with the public around the centre's birthday. The Córdoba City Council's delegate for Citizen Participation, Eva Contador, and the delegate for Culture and Historical Heritage, Isabel Albás, took part in the day; Albás stressed the value of music in accompanying patients.
