Anyone going up to ski in Sierra Nevada this season will not encounter works-related closures on the access roads. The Junta de Andalucía has informed the resort's business owners, Cetursa, the mayor of Monachil and autocares Tocina that the roads will be open to traffic when the season begins, according to the Regional Minister for Development and Mobility, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, after a working meeting in Granada.
The main access, clear
The main access road to Pradollano (A-395R1) will remain completely clear, with one lane open in each direction. It was already opened to traffic a few months ago and the most complex operation of the works has been completed: a pile wall between 20 and 29 metres deep, carried out ahead of schedule, as it was planned for the summer of 2027. In December some works will continue, but without affecting traffic. The road will also have a new roundabout at the junction with the A-395 and a pedestrian lane separated from traffic along its entire length.
The inner access, before December
At the same time, work is underway on the inner access next to the residential developments (A-395 R2) to fully reopen it before the end of November. Its opening depends only on some anchors that remain to be installed.
The renovation works will be suspended for the duration of the season and will resume at the end, when the A-395R2 will be closed again to finish the concreting of the slab. The renovation of the access, with a cost to the administration of more than 26 million euros between the comprehensive improvement and the emergency works, is already more than 50% complete. In recent weeks work has been carried out at several points on slope stabilisation, with bolts and mesh, and with traffic lights and alternating one-way traffic to prevent debris being thrown at vehicles.
Economic pillar
The regional minister has stated that Sierra Nevada is a "first-rate economic pillar": it represents 2.2% of GDP, generates more than 7,000 jobs and added value of more than 650 million euros. At the meeting he was accompanied by the Junta's Government Delegate in Granada, Antonio Granados, and the Regional Delegate for Development and Mobility, Inmaculada Hernández.
