Guadahortuna will have for the first time a centre for the first cycle of Infant Education, the stage that runs up to the age of three. The Governing Council has approved the decree creating the 'Los Prados' Nursery School, which will be municipally owned and have 41 school places spread across three units.
How the places are distributed
By age group, the centre will offer eight places for children under one year old, thirteen for the one-to-two age group and twenty for the two-to-three age group. Until now the municipality had no centre for this stage, neither publicly nor privately owned, according to the Junta de Andalucía.
Educational stage and timetable
Infant Education is considered in Andalucía an educational stage, not merely a care stage, and schooling at this stage is voluntary. To make it easier to combine work and family life, these centres open from Monday to Friday on all non-holiday days of the year, except the month of August, with uninterrupted hours from 7.30 to 17.00, with a maximum of eight hours of stay for pupils.
The ordinary class schedule begins on the third working day of September and ends on the penultimate working day of July each year.
What it means for families
The creation of the centre responds, according to the Andalusian Government, to the demand of the municipality's families for the first cycle of Infant Education. The school is created with municipal ownership and three units.
