Granada hosts a conference on filming in heritage sites and its tourism pull
Film and television professionals took part this Tuesday in Granada in the 'Heritage Sessions' conference, organised by Andalucía Film Commission, on the use of historic sites as locations and their effect on tourism.
The 'Heritage Sessions' conference brought together this Tuesday in Granada professionals from film and television audiovisual production to address filming in heritage sites. The meeting is organised by Andalucía Film Commission with the collaboration of the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Justice, Deregulation and Local Administration.
What is being discussed
The programme focuses on film tourism and how productions can raise awareness of heritage. It also addresses the challenges of using historic and monumental sites as locations: coordination between productions and heritage managers, conservation of cultural assets, professionalisation of crews, image rights and intellectual property, as well as the possibilities of digital twins, virtual production and artificial intelligence.
What the participants say
British location manager Jodi Moore highlighted «the diversity of Andalusia» in attracting shoots which, together with the hiring of Andalusian audiovisual companies, «create jobs and generate significant investment in accommodation, catering and the tourism industry».
A Film Location Company's location supervisor, Irene Manrique, noted that projects shot in Andalusia have «an international impact that makes Andalusia known around the world» and contribute to quality tourism seeking natural and historic sites. Manrique added that shoots create opportunities «in the short term, through hiring staff and companies, but also in the long term, because it puts on the map destinations that the public would otherwise not know».
The archaeologist from the Research and Conservation Area of the Baelo Claudia Archaeological Ensemble, Iván García, noted that the audiovisual presence of Andalusia's architectural and natural heritage «allows cultural interest in the region to grow and encourages people to discover these sites».
Who takes part
The conference brings together national and international audiovisual professionals, managers of heritage sites and specialists in new technologies. It was attended by the territorial delegate for Tourism, Justice, Deregulation and Local Administration in Granada, José Manuel López Suárez.
